For more than 60 years, William Arthur’s fine stationery products have helped people turn special moments and once-in-a-lifetime occasions into lasting memories. At our home in West Kennebunk, Maine, our craftspeople keep the techniques and traditions of fine paper and printing alive, combining time-honored print methods with state-of-the-art design and technology. Our History
In 1949, Philip and Rita Renning, accomplished artists in fine printing and type design, founded Ten Bamboo Studio in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Their stationery company was named after a 17th-century book of woodcuts called “The Ten Bamboo Studio”, which still serves as a style manual for Chinese watercolor painting techniques. The company gained a following among elite consumers drawn to Ten Bamboo’s cutting-edge aesthetic and innovative use of color and typography. In 1984, Bill and June DeJonge acquired the company and greatly expanded the popularity and distribution of this fine stationery line, cementing our reputation as having some of the best designs and customer service in the industry.
In 1987 the DeJonges changed the company’s name to William Arthur, Bill’s first and middle names, and moved it from Wellesley to West Kennebunk, Maine, where our stationery products are designed, manufactured and printed today. We became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hallmark Cards, Inc. in 1997 and employ nearly 300 designers, artists, skilled craftspeople and customer service professionals.
In 2005 we forged a licensing partnership with Vera Wang to design and produce her exclusive line of wedding invitations and social stationery papers. We also partner with Wedding Paper Divas to fulfill their customers’ letterpress and thermography printed orders.
William Arthur provides a wide variety of personalized and boxed stationery—along with event essentials products—for all occasions: wedding and party invitations, social and professional stationery, holiday photo and greeting cards, birth and moving annoucements, as well as sympathy notes. Our products are sold through over 1,300 carefully selected retailers worldwide and direct to consumers online.
