Our Commitment to the Environment

William Arthur designs and prints all of our fine stationery products at our corporate office and production facility in West Kennebunk, Maine. We take great pride in our efforts to preserve and protect the environment.  Our wood pulp papers are archival grade and acid-free, purchased only from paper suppliers who work with responsible manufacturers practicing good forestry management, and utilizing best harvest practices.

Our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability extends far beyond the materials we use to produce fine stationery. Being green is also about the actions we take in our day-to-day operations to minimize the impact on our air, water and soil.

  • William Arthur recycles 90% of our paper materials and corrugate waste, as well as copper and aluminum printing plates.
  • Obsolete products are donated to local schools and Maine-based charities. In addition, we recycle cans and bottles, with funds from this effort going to our employee emergency fund.
  • To minimize our energy consumption we have reduced the number of bulbs used in our facility, installed energy efficient lighting, added light and equipment cut-off sensors, and increased employee awareness of other simple steps we can take to decrease energy usage. To date, these efforts have contributed to a 15% reduction in our kilowatt hour usage compared to previous years.
  • All chemicals used in our facility are disposed of properly, in accordance with state and federal EPA standards. We replace where possible with environmentally safe chemicals and compounds.

At William Arthur, we continually seek opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the planet. We have made it our on-going responsibility to improve the energy efficiency of our operations, minimize our waste, purchase materials from suppliers whose manufacturing practices are within EPA standards, and continue to build on our best practices of recycling and donations.
